Ruben Aleksanyan World Champion of Weightlifting

YEREVAN, JUNE 21, ARMENPRESS: Armenian weightlifter Ruben Aleksanyan (+105 weight category) achieved the title of champion of the World Junior Weightlifting Championship, which was held in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria. Ruben Aleksanyan swept three gold medals at 392kg in total- 180kg in snatch and 212kg in jerk. The Armenian weightlifter exceeded Russian Zaurbek Naniev, who came second at the championship with the score of 380kg.

The second sportsman from Armenia Zorik Poghosyan (69kg weight category) came 4th with a total of 301kg. His opponent exceeded him with 39kg.-0-/39/ Commenting on these results, Pashik Alaverdyan, international referee, secretary general of the Armenian Weightlifting Federation, said that the victory of Ruben Aleksanyan was not a surprise, as Aleksanyan is the vice champion of the European Championships for Adults and the favorite of the World Junior Weightlifting Championship. He added that Ruben Aleksanyan is the hope of Armenia in the Olympic Games.
