New strategic concept of NATO discussed today

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 4, ARMENPRESS: The new strategic concept of NATO and role of people in the process of its approval have been discussed today at the “Youth Forum of the South Caucasus” international conference in Yerevan. Authoritative experts, students from Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey participated in the event.

Charge d’affaires of British embassy to Armenia Gareth Win Owen, director of the “Armenian Atlantic Association” Tevan Poghosyan delivered welcoming speeches. The latter said that starting from the past year NATO started developing new concept. “It is an open and involving project in the process of the adoption of which the opinion of all is being taken into consideration,” T. Poghosyan said.

According to him, the event is called to gather the young people of the region and make their opinion voiced in the whole world.

“During the conference the participants will say what issues they would like to be involved in the concept and in what mechanisms or directions solutions be given to them,” T. Poghosyan said.

He said now discussions, conferences, workshops are being conducted throughout the world. Three global gatherings organized by NATO have already taken place, in summer the results of the conferences must be summed up and already in November at the NATO Summit, it will finally be approved.

The conference is being conducted with the support of the Norwegian Atlantic Committee. It will continue tomorrow too.
