Speaker of Parliament accuses ex-president Kocharyan of being Russian agent

Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan has accused former President Robert Kocharyan of being a Russian agent.

“I think Robert Kocharyan is a person having a status of a Russian spy in Armenia,” Simonyan said at a press briefing. “He is a politician pursuing Russian interests and rendering services only in that direction.”

Simonyan said his remarks are his personal opinion.

“I see his activities, the statements he is making, and this is my political assessment. When you make a statement that is identical with the Russian statements, when members of your faction make speeches which match with the views of the Russian side, then I can make such a conclusion. It is no secret that the Mayor of Gyumri, who has been endorsed by Robert Kocharyan and who considers Robert Kocharyan to be a political leader, has announced that he sees Armenia as part of the Russia-Belarus union state,” Simonyan said.

Simonyan said there are plenty of other examples that substantiate his claim that Kocharyan is a Russian agent.
