YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. Armenia does not want to provoke a war between the CSTO and Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, expressing hope that the Organization will support its position and will record that the Azerbaijani troops must withdraw from the sovereign territory of Armenia.
During the Q&A session in the Parliament, the Prime Minister reminded that the position of Armenia is clear, that the Azerbaijani troops must withdraw from the occupied territories of Armenia to the positions existing before May 11, 2021. And he stated that the international community, in fact, supports this position of Armenia.
“We hope that the CSTO will also support our position. Of course, the situation is strange, because it seems the opposite should have taken place, the CSTO must have clearly supported it, and we must have worked with our other partners for building a position, but now we have just the opposite. And I hope that we will record this consensus during the upcoming CSTO summit in Yerevan on November 23. This is a principled decision and position for Armenia. I want to be very clear – we do not want to provoke a CSTO-Azerbaijan war. No, we say what is the political position, record, the CSTO perception regarding this situation”, the PM said.
What kind of a political position the CSTO will hold over this situation is highly important for Armenia. According to the PM, the attitude of the citizens of Armenia towards the CSTO and the future of relations between Armenia and the CSTO depends on this position.
