YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. On August 31 evening and September 1 morning the rival fired shots directed towards the villages of Tavush Province most of which were aimed at inhabited areas. Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Press Secretary of Republic of Armenia Defense Ministry told “Armenpress” that the shots were not so strong and long-lasting and the shots stopped as a result of appropriate preventive measures taken by the Armed Forces of Armenia.

“There were shots. The latter were directed towards populated areas but were not so strong and long-lasting. The Armed Forces of Armenia responded adequately and the rival’s actions were suppressed.”, said Artsrun Hovhannisyan adding that currently the situation in Tavush Province is calm and the Armed Forces of Armenia control the situation.

After the European Games held in Baku Azerbaijan again destabilizes the situation and escalates the tension both on the Armenia-Azerbaijan and Artsakh-Azerbaijan borders. According to Defense Ministry and NKR Defense Army the rival fires from 60, 80, 120 mm mortars. Armenia MoD Seyran Ohanyan said that the Armenian side responses only to the shots of snipers. Armenian Army does not respond to irregular shots.
