Demirtaş files lawsuit against Erdoğan and Davutoğlu

YEREVAN, JULY 31, ARMENPRESS. The leader of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party, Selahattin Demirtaş, filed a lawsuit against the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. Armenpress informs the abovesaid referring to Turkish “Taraf”. Demirtaş filed the lawsuit against the heads of the state for “guiding and influencing the court's independence.”

It was reported earlier that the leader of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party, Selahattin Demirtaş, was under investigation by the Diyarbakır Public Prosecution.The events of October 6-8, 2014 will be studied during the investigation. The probe on Demirtaş concerns charges of "inciting a part of the public against another by arming them" as stated in the "Crimes against Public Peace" segment of the Turkish Criminal Code.The prosecutor will also demand Demirtaş's legislative immunity be lifted, if the probe concludes that the crimes stated in the charges were indeed committed. If a criminal case is launched, the prosecutor might demand a prison term of up to 24 years against Demirtaş.
