The opposition didn’t share a common goal: Republican MP

YEREVAN, 3 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. Every political figure entering the political struggle must take into consideration the fact that each disappointment will lead to a new wave of emigration. This is what former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Shirkhanyan said during a press conference. “I don’t believe there has ever been an opposition in Armenia. Opposition means a political structure hinged on some ideology. If a struggle is not based on ideology, it can’t be referred to as a struggle. The struggle of the opposition in Armenia was a struggle to overthrow the government. Taking into consideration the fact that there were people with strictly different views and that there couldn’t have been any similarities in terms of the political struggle and ideas, we should have assumed that that would be the end,” Vahan Shirkhanyan said, as “Armenpress” reports.

Deputy of the faction of the Republican Party of Armenia Lernik Alexanyan says there has been and always will be an opposition in Armenia and that the problem is simply the axis around which that opposition unites. “The problem is what the opposition is aspiring for. If political parties come together with their goals and ideas, there will be an opposition, and the people will believe in that opposition. The problem with the Armenian opposition is that the political parties didn’t share a common goal,” the deputy mentioned.
