YEREVAN, 27 JANUARY, ARMENPRESS. “Armenpress” confirms that theIslamic State (IS) militants have burnt down one of the oldest Armenian churches in Mosul, northern Iraq, mentioning that the church that was burnt was the new Armenian church. The old Armenian church remains standing. The news was confirmed by the Armenian Diocese during an interview with “Armenpress”. The source also reported that the newly built Armenian church had been robbed and bombed two years ago.

 Earlier, Basnews reported that ISIS terrorists had burned one of the oldest Armenian churches in Mosul. Saed Mamuzini, a KDP official from the city, told BasNews, “IS insurgents continue to torch and destroy public places, people’s homes and shrines.”

 When insurgents took control of Mosul in June 2014, Armenians and Christians fled to the provinces of the Kurdistan Region.
