YEREVAN, MAY 3, ARMENPRESS. The Republic of Armenia will assume the chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on May 16. This is a very honorary and responsible job. The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan stated this during the parliamentary sessions held under the slogan "Armenia's Chairmanship in the Council of Europe.» As reports "Armenpress" Hovik Abrahamyan mentioned: "I am hopeful that these parliamentary sessions will greatly contribute to the realization of that job with honor." In addition Abrahamyan underscored that this is a unique opportunity for Armenia to participate in the CoE agenda aimed at democracy and human rights.

Among other things he noted that we witness a number of human rights violations on religious grounds, and we must struggle against them. Also Hovik Abrahamyan highlighted: "In my opinion our chairmanship must first of all be aimed at the prevention of such phenomena."
