Deputy Speaker Sharmazanov comments on possible electoral alliance between Vardan
Oskanyan, Raffi Hovhannisyan and Seyran Ohanyan

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Speaker of Armenia’s Parliament commented on leader of “Unity” party Vardan Oskanyan’s announcement who said it is not ruled out that they will form an electoral alliance with leader of “Heritage” party Raffi Hovhannisyan and former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, reports “Armenpress”.

Referring to Seyran Ohanyan’s possible return to politics, Sharmazanov told reporters in the Parliament that as of this moment Seyran Ohanyan didn’t personally issue an announcement, adding that every citizen of Armenia, including also the former officials have a right to be engaged in politics.

“As for the possible triple alliance of two our former foreign ministers and former defense minister, it is their problem”, Sharmazanov said.

To the question how he reacts to the possibility of Seyran Ohanyan’s acting in the opposition field, Sharmazanov stated people decide as a result of the elections who becomes an opposition and who a leadership.

“We don’t select specific targets in the political campaign, we are not fighting against anyone. Whoever returns to politics, we have our internal political agenda, we will move forward on that agenda, and this agenda has been outlined by President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan”, Sharmazanov said.

In response to a question which says whether the triple alliance is an opponent for the RPA, Sharmazanov stated that he cannot talk about something which doesn’t exist yet. “When it exists, we will talk about it”, he said.

Sharmazanov said the local self-government elections showed which are the favorites of the opposition field. “I have said that after Edmon Marukyan-Nikol Pashinyan-Aram Sargsyan union, new possible alliances will be formed in the opposition field. Perhaps, one of such alliances is the one you mentioned. The PRA is ready to compete with all political forces in free, fair conditions. We respect all our political opponents”, he said.

To the question why the RPA doesn’t try to include Seyran Ohanyan in its ranks and make him participate in the political procedures, Sharmazanov stated: “Ask those questions to Seyran Ohanyan. As long as former Defense Minister, Karabakh hero Seyran Ohanyan didn’t speak about his political plans, I consider it nonsense to make any comments. When he speaks, we will also speak. Armenia is a democratic country, pluralism is a political and legal norm in our country, and it is very natural that there can be a lot of people who don’t see their way with the RPA. The RPA doesn’t make democratic reforms in order everyone to become its member and we return to a one-party system”.

As for Seyran Ohanyan, Sharmazanov said: “It is not necessary to concentrate on Seyran Ohanyan personality. There are many former officials who can return at various formats. It is their right and problem. Here the RPA has nothing to do. We are not fighting against any forces. We have our political agenda and wish everyone a success in the free campaign”, Sharmazanov said.
