Yerevan State University students qualify for ACM ICPC finals

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS. Programming students of the Yerevan State University qualified for the ACM ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest finals. The semi finals were held in Tbilisi December 3-4. The YSU, AUA, Armenian-Russian universities were taking part in the contest. YSU was represented by three teams. 226 teams competed.

Vahram Dumanyan, dead of the informatics and applied mathematics faculty of the YSU told a press conference in ARMENPRESS it is the first time in the history of independence that programming students were able to qualify for the finals of this prestigious contest

“The most prestigious among student programming Olympiads is the “ACM-ICPC”. We are involved in this process since 2000. This is a very difficult contest, universities from all continents of the world compete with one another. 128 universities from 2700 qualified for the semi-finals, and we are already in that 128”, he said.

The event is organized by the USA.

“The team worked for 4 years to achieve this result. They were pretty strong last year also, worthy to qualify for finals, but it was depending on several factors. This should have happened according to all rules of logic, because the guys put so much effort, so much work was done. This region is quite strong, and we entered the finals from a strong competitive region”, Armen Andreasyan, lecturer of the faculty and coach of the team said.
