counterfeit goods

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. The Eurasian Economic Union in agreements on economic cooperation with other states stipulates mechanisms on countering the illegal circulation of goods, Member of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, EEC Minister for Trade Veronika Nikishina told reporters within the framework of “Anticounterfeiting 2016” Forum in Yerevan, reports “Armenpress”.

“We already have free trade agreement, and the relevant norms are stipulated in the agreement. We want to hear the opinions of businessmen, how such norms work and whether they are enough for fighting against the illegal circulation of goods”, she said.

She said that practice will be applied on other agreements as well in order for them to be considered as international obligation for the Union’s partner states in terms of countering the smuggling and defining responsibility for such cases.

“That’s why we proceed from the fact that every civilized agreement must be considered by our partners as international obligation. We are working on that”, she said.

She said China is famous for circulation of counterfeit goods, with which the EAEU has started talks on trade-economic cooperation agreement. Nikishina said they are going to include respective norms in the agreement which will counter the circulation of counterfeit goods. She said the talks on this path are underway, and time will show the results.

Timur Suleimenov – Member of the EEC Board, Minister in charge of Economy and Financial Policy, responding to the question how much the EAEU Customs Code will contribute to running an effective fight against smuggling, said the Customs Code supposes the Union’s member states to have a common list of goods which must be protected.

“In this regard, of course, we believe that the Customs Code is an advanced document, and will greatly contribute to reducing the illegal circulation of goods”, he said.
