Russia expects positive progress from possible meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Russia does everything to ensure a positive progress over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, Chairperson of Russia’s Federation Council's Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev told reporters in the Armenian Parliament, reports “Armenpress”.

He said Russia hopes for achieving a positive progress from the possible meeting between the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the Armenian, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers in Hamburg on December 8.

“Russia does everything to contribute to it. We understand that the April events certainly slowed down the process. But it seems to us that the emotions calmed down for restoring the process”, he said.

He said Russia anxiously followed the April events. “You know that Russia immediately responded. We have taken all opportunities to reduce the tension and return the situation into a political platform. Thanks God, we managed to do it very quickly, but unfortunately, it didn’t move forward the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement in any way”, the Russian MP said.

He said they discussed the conflict settlement with the Armenian Foreign Minister and learned that the Armenian side is ready to move forward: “From the viewpoint of the Armenian side, Azerbaijan prolongs it. It is understandable that we would like Azerbaijan and Armenia to come to a common denominator. In general, we think that Russia’s mission has contributed to the talks. And I really believe that our parliamentary format will also be demanded. Of course, we have a direct contact with the Azerbaijani partners. I will most accurately convey them what we have heard here”, Kosachev said.
