“You may forgive, but never forget” – Speaker of Parliament of Slovakia on Armenian Genocide

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. Andrej Danko – Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia says he is glad the Slovakian Parliament has recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide.

After a meeting with Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Galust Sahakyan, Andrej Danko stressed humanity must remember and respect history.

“I underwent a serious surgery during the commemoration days of the Armenian Genocide this year, however I realized it is my duty to visit Armenia with members of our Parliament and bow before the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims”, Danko said.

According to him, people must know and understand the history of the Armenian people, they must realize how much suffering the Armenian people had. “I like to use a sentence very much which I learnt from you: “You can forgive, but you can never forget”. Yes, one must never forget history”, he said.

Concluding his speech, Danko, on behalf of the people of Slovakia, thanked the leadership of the Armenian Parliament for the warm reception.

Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Galust Sahakyan said they discussed the situation in the Middle East, the Azerbaijani aggression of April, the process of talks of a new Armenia-EU legal document, as well as other issues of bilateral cooperation.
