Alternative route through South Ossetia is not ruled out – Andrey Babko

Alternative route through South Ossetia is not ruled out – Andrey Babko

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 25, ARMENPRESS. The issue of an alternative route from Armenia to Russia will be raised at Russia-Georgia business forum to be held on October 31 in Georgia, chairman of the organizing committee of “Expo-Russia Armenia plus Iran” exhibition David Vardanov said in a press conference at “Armenpress” media hall.

The reporters inquired to what extent it is possible to have a route through South Ossetia. Russian trade representative in Armenia Andrey Babko noted that any business project must be economically substantiated.

“It is not proved yet that there may be a great volume of transportations from Iran to Russia, though we aspire to that and make efforts in that direction. As refers to an alternative route from Armenia to Russia, any businessman will make an investment only in case enough volume of transportations is guaranteed”, Andrey Babko said, adding that an alternative route through South Ossetia is not ruled out.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Armenia Ivan Volinkin added that there will be more discussions over alternative routes. He hoped that the decision over an alternative route will be more economic than political.
