Armenian Government to preserve balance of military power and push military-industrial
development

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, ARMENPRESS. The actions of the Armenian Government in defense sphere will be based on the principles of “nation-army” and “maximal results by available resources”, “Armenpress” reports the Cabinet’s action plan, posted in e-gov. am website, defines.

According to the action plan, the existing geopolitical and security threats are considered when elaborating those principles, conditioned by which Armenia must maintain in the visible future a combat ready, constantly modernizing defense system that enjoys public trust and confidence. “The imbalance of the necessary number of military personal and development resources with the size of the population make the investment of special solutions inevitable, as a result of which the Armed Forces will turn from a burden on the state budget and economy into a progress propeller. The Armenian army must become the “school of the public” instead of being its mirror”, the Cabinet’s action plan reads.

Based on this, the defense programs will be aimed at creating sufficient military capacities to neutralize military threats, maintaining balance of military power in the region, development of the national capacities of the Armed Forces, as well as allied and partnership relations, modernization of military management mechanisms, development of army-society relations, guaranteeing human rights and fundamental freedoms in the Armed Forces, ensuring healthy inter-personal relations, and reinforcement of patriotism, moral values, discipline and statutory relations.

The Government will also take consistent steps to ensure citizen oversight and public accountability of the Armed Forces.

The Executive will also focus on the adequate social guarantees for servicemen, their family members, former servicemen with service-related disabilities, and families of killed or missing in action.

The Government also plans to increase the opportunities of females to voluntary service.
