4 Syrian-Armenian families arrive in Armenia within a week – Diaspora Minister

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 11, ARMENPRESS. The situation in Syria and particularly in Aleppo is peaceful, there is no panic, Minister of Diaspora of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan told “Armenpress” in response to the question if the rumors that Syrian-Armenians have turned to the Government of Armenia with a plea to be transported to Armenia. According to the Minister, there are people who want to come to Armenia, but they are a small number.

“No one can leave Syria without the permittance of our consulate, therefore we work with the consulate on daily basis. Syrian-Armenian families have moved to Armenia during the last week. Employees of our ministry welcome the airplanes coming from the east, and we find out with the help of our organizations in Syria if there are people wishing to come to Armenia”, the Minister said.

Minister Hakobyan also noted that situation in Syria is unpredictable and the issue of the ministry is to be helpful for any Syrian-Armenian, be it in Syria or Armenia.

Head of “Center for Coordination of Syrian-Armenians' Issues” NGO Lena Halajyan told “Armenpress” that her organization has received no official request for being moved to Armenia and the rumors derive from non-reliable sources.

According to media reports, 600 Syrian-Armenians have appealed to Yerevan-based “Aleppo” charitable NGO for being moved to Armenia. The founder of the organization Ani Balkhyan has told “Arevelk” periodical about this.
