National Library of Armenia suggests fining some publishers

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. The National Library of Armenia suggests fining those publishers who do not provide a copy of the published book to the library, as defined by law, Director of the NLA Tigran Zargaryan told ARMENPRESS.

“We are suggesting to amend the law on “mandatory copy of documents” and set a fine for those publishers who do not provide the National Library with a mandatory copy. We have made the proposal, now it must be discussed”, he said.

Zargaryan says the problem is the fact that some publishers do not provide the Library with the copies of the published books, and the Library doesn’t have any tool to make any influence.

“We are only left to ask, call, and use personal relations. It turns out that the law doesn’t work. If we don’t possess those copies, that we have gaps. This procedure works throughout the world. By the way, publishers have their own argument, they pay taxes, some books cost expensive. Some kind of a solution must be found so that the mandatory copy reaches the library. The National Library is for the generations, not for the present moment”, he said.
