RPA remains Armenia’s most influential political force: Party summarizes local elections

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 3, ARMENPRESS. The Republican Party of Armenia considers the local elections held on October 2 as competitive and political.

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said despite all the problems the elections held in Gyumri and Vanadzor showed that the transition to the parliamentary system is normally proceeding, the parties manage to present their plans to the voters through free election campaign.

“2016 elections showed that there is not alternative to competitive election in Armenia. This is very important. These elections were competitive, democratic and the most important there was a clash of ideas and plans”, he said, “Armenpress” reported.

He said the RPA expected such results. The party well knows its strong and weak sides.

“We want to thank the people of Vanadzor and Gyumri for giving the majority of their votes to the Republican Party. I also want to congratulate the representatives of all parties who were elected as Council members of Gyumri and Vanadzor”, Sharmazanov said.

Sharmazanov said the local election results show that the RPA remains the most influential political force of Armenia. He added that the RPA managed to achieve success in main communities.
