NKR’s de jure recognition is just matter of time – says Armenian Parliament’s Deputy Speaker

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. There is an absence of political will over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement only in the Azerbaijani side, Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said.

“We have said our opinion. After the meetings in Vienna and St. Petersburg, the Foreign Ministers issued a statement, and Armenia’s President clearly stated in Moscow there will not be unilateral concessions, and the elimination of causes, rather than consequences is important. And the causes are related with the fact that Azerbaijan doesn’t want to recognize the NKR people’s full right to self-determination”, Sharmazanov said, reports “Armenpress”.

He said the Armenian side’s opinion is clear, the de jure recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic is just a matter of time.

“Karabakh will never be a part of Azerbaijan. This is our stance, and we express it both in Yerevan, in Moscow, in Buenos Aires and everywhere”, he said.

Referring to the talks over territorial mutual concessions, Sharmazanov said the settlement issue is the most important. “We must not talk about territories, and I have repeatedly showed them the place of territories. The Republic of Armenia will support the NKR people’s fair fight which started in 1988”, he said.

He said the agreements reached in Vienna and St. Petersburg are not implemented due to Azerbaijan’s unconstructive policy. The NKR people must solve the issue, and we are the guarantor of that fight. The people of Karabakh must be able to exercise their right to self-determination based on the international norms”, Sharmazanov said.

“Azerbaijan is trying to present all this as a territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but this is not a territorial dispute, this a fight to exercise the right to self-determination”, Sharmazanov said.

He said the NKR leadership must become a full party to the negotiations and they must make the final decision.
