Uruguay was first to dispel darkness of Turkish denial – Deputy Speaker of Armenian Parliament

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 9, ARMENPRESS. While on a working visit to Uruguay, the Armenian delegation led by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Head of Armenia-Uruguay parliamentary friendship group Eduard Sharmazanov, including also MPs Sukias Avetisyan and Mikayel Manukyan, held a meeting with Vice President of Oriental Republic of Uruguay, President of the Senate Raúl Sendic on September 7, press service of the Parliament informed “Armenpress”.

The sides underscored the further expansion and development of cooperation between the Parliaments of the two states. They said despite the great distance Armenia and Uruguay are friendly states.

Eduard Sharmazanov said with satisfaction Uruguay is the first country in the world which recognized the Armenian Genocide in 1965 by dispelling the darkness of the Turkish denial policy. “We should jointly fight against the Turkish denial policy. Turkey must eventually face its own history”, Sharmazanov said.

In his turn Raúl Sendic attached importance to the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide by the international community.

The sides also discussed the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process. In this context, Eduard Sharmazanov said: “Azerbaijan must respect the principle of the right to self-determination of the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh. The only obstacle creator in the negotiation process is Azerbaijan which shows unacceptable behavior”. In their turn Armenian MPs Sukias Avetisyan and Mikayel Manukyan said Azerbaijan is not ready for dialogue.

Raúl Sendic said Uruguay supports the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and is against to any attempt of solving the conflict through military means.
