YEREVAN, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Parliament Speaker of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov says Armenia gives importance to the development of relations with Germany in all sectors. “I invited Mrs. Bulmahn to Armenia, today she held meetings in the Parliament, we will present the details of thosemeetings. Tomorrow she will meet Foreign Minister and the President of Armenia. I would like to say that both sides stress the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation. We also highly appreciate the development of bilateral relations within the context of Armenia-EU relations”, Sharmazanov said this during the joint press conference with the Bundestag Vice-President Edelgard Bulmahn.

He said Germany is one of the EU member states which is an important partner of Armenia. “It is important to state that Germany is the second donor country after the US, and numerous projects are being implemented in Armenia by Germany’s sponsorship”, Sharmazanov said. He informed that he discussed with his German counterpart issues related to the Constitutional and democratic reforms and their results in Armenia. “I reaffirmed that democratic values, fight against corruption have no alternatives in Armenia. Armenia should move steadily towards the development of democracy”, MP said.

Referring to the regional issues, Sharmazanov emphasized that Armenia is concerned over the security issues in the region and said to his German counterpart Armenia only supports the maintenance of stability in the region. “We have also talked about the April four-day war, we presented her concrete facts of Azerbaijani aggression and crimes, including also the tortures of the Armenian soldiers and civilian people by the Azerbaijani side”, he stated.

Stressing the need of the conflict settlement with the Minsk Group format Sharmazanov expressed hope that the installation of trust and monitoring mechanisms will enable to say who violates the ceasefire and undermines peace in the region.

Moreover, Armenian Deputy Parliament Speaker expressed gratitude to the Bundestag Vice-President for the works done over the resolution on the Armenian Genocide.
