The Cafesjian Center for  Arts Celebrates International Museum Day and Museum Night 2016

YEREVAN, MAY 19, ARMENPRESS. The Cafesjian Center for the Arts joins the international museum community worldwide to celebrate the International Museum Day and Museum Night events on May 21. The theme of 2016 International Museum Day is Museums and Cultural Landscapes, which highlights the link between museums and cultural heritage, enhancing the role of museums as centers involved in actively protecting the cultural landscape and strengthening ties between people and their environment.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the Cafesjian Center , highlighting this complex link between community and cultural heritage, the Cafesjian Center for the Arts invites everyone to celebrate together International Museum Day and Museum Night on May 21, offering free admission to its galleries from 10:00 until midnight, as well as special programming including exhibition openings and creative educational initiatives.

The major event for Museum Night at the Center is the premiere presentation of the Sasuntsi Davit relief, a seminal work by famous Armenian sculptor Artashes Hovsepian, created in 1984-1988 in the Sasuntsi Davit Gallery at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts.

Introducing this monumental work to the public for the first time, the Cafesjian Center for the Arts reveals one of the treasures of the Cascade complex, while paying tribute to the artist whose 85th birthday anniversary is celebrated in 2016.

The Cafesjian Center for the Arts will also present the exhibition, The Landscape of My Country, organized as part of an educational program launched in February 2016. The program, designed for Syrian-Armenian children who immigrated to Armenia as a result of the Syrian civil war, focused on presenting the cultural landscape of Armenia supporting the integration of participating children in the cultural and social life of the country. The exhibition, The Landscape of My Country, features a selection of works reflecting the creativity and inspiration of the children who participated in the program. Visitors will also have an opportunity to view the acclaimed and recently opened exhibition, Robert Elibekian: Reflections, in Eagle Gallery. 

As part of the special programming for Museum Night, two sessions of the educational program, Spring Carnival, based on the exhibition, Robert Elibekian: Reflections, will be offered for families and teenagers: 11:00 family program: 6+. Participants will create decorative hats and masks. 15:00 teens program: 14 +. Participants will make face cut-outs of theatrical costumes.
