Mogherini expresses support for confidence strengthening measures in Nagorno Karabakh 
conflict zone

YEREVAN, MAY 16, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini on May 16.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of Armenian President’s Office, issues referring to regional developments and security were addressed at the meeting. In that context, the sides touched upon the escalation in Nagono Karabakh conflict zone in early April resulted by gross ceasefire violation and ways to overcome the situation. President Sargsyan, presenting the Armenian position on resuming talks, highlighted the necessity of unconditional fulfillment of the 1994 ceasefire regime agreement and 1995 ceasefire regime reinforcement agreement as the first step for creating favorable conditions for negotiations.

Federica Mogherini reaffirmed EU’s support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group efforts and expressed readiness to assist confidence strengthening measures in Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone. In this context, the Armenia side spotlighted the visit of EU representatives to the regions that suffered from the conflict.

The sides hoped that the meetings initiated by the foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair countries will help to overcome the existing situation and establish peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting a reference was also made to the agenda of Armenia-EU bilateral relations, including cooperation in separate spheres.
