conflict

YEREVAN, MAY 4, ARMENPRESS. Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov finds no reason to panic about the initiative of an Armenian MP to discuss the issue of the recognition of the independence of Nagorno Karabakh, “Armenpress” reports, “Ria Novosti” informs.

“As refers to the information of recognizing Nagorno Karabakh, it is a proposal of two members of the Armenian parliament. And the Government of Armenia, in line with their law, must prepare an opinion on that bill, something that they have explained to everyone, calming down passions. I see no reason to alarm or panic”, Lavrov said.

He mentioned that he had held a discussion with his counterpart. “Yerevan’s commitment to peaceful settlement was clearly reconfirmed. That means that the status of Karabakh will be decided in the context of the general agreement, but not unilaterally”, the Minister said.

The Government of Armenia will discuss the bill of recognizing Nagorno Karabakh Republic during the session on May 5. MPs Zaruhi Postanjyan and Hrant Bagratyan are the authors of the bill.
