Shavarsh Kocharyan: Agreement on mutual assistance with NKR in process
YEREVAN, APRIL 6, ARMENPRESS. The mutual assistance agreement is in process of coordination under Armenian agencies. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan after the Cabinet meeting. “We have to finalize the text, coordinate, sign and then we will talk about ratification”, “Armenpress” reports the Deputy Minister saying.
Answering to a question as to when Armenia will start the process of recognizing the independence of Nagorno Karabakh, Kocharyan said that currently this process is not active in Armenia, and the agreement is a document which stresses that Armenia-Nagorno Karabakh relations are on equal legislative level.
During the Security Council meeting with was summoned in connection with the Azerbaijani unleashed military offensive operations, Serzh Sargsyan instructed the MFA of Armenia to initiate a mutual assistance agreement with the MFA of Nagorno Karabakh.
During the meeting with OSCE member country Ambassadors, Serzh Sargsyan said that “If indeed the military operations continue and grow large-scale, Armenia will recognize the independence of Nagorno Karabakh”.
Along the entire length of the contact line of Nagorno Karabakh- Azerbaijan opposing forces, on April 1 and throughout the morning of April 2, the adversary undertook large-scale offensive military actions, during which the adversary shelled with missile-artillery units not only Armenian defense positions, but also civilian settlements.
