Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army releases statement on Azerbaijani ceasefire proposal

YEREVAN, APRIL 3, ARMENPRESS. The Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army said it is ready to discuss the cease-fire proposal in the context of the recovery of the initial positions. The ministry mentioned, that Azerbaijani statement on unilateral ceasefire is a disinformation.

"The Azerbaijani side conducted large-scale offensive military actions on April 1 and April 2, used almost every possible military equipment of its armory, and, after releasing this statement it bombarded peaceful civilian settlements with MM-21 (Grad) and 152mm artillery-missile systems, in particular the city of Martakert.

The above-mentioned facts, the statements "counter-action" and "reinforcement of liberated areas" show the false nature of the document the real aim of which is the imitation of a ceasefire.

The Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army is ready to discuss the cease-fire proposal in the context of the recovery of the initial positions", “Armenpress” was informed by the Press Service of the Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army.

The UN Security Council adopted four resolutions between April and November, 1993, calling for “effective and permanent” ceasefire, as well as “immediate implementation of the reciprocal and urgent steps” in that direction. Armenia has been under effective land blockade not only by Azerbaijan since the early days of fighting in Nagorno Karabakh, but also by Turkey – a staunch ally of Azerbaijan and a NATO member -- since April 1993.

Trilateral ceasefire agreement (Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh, Azerbaijan) was signed in 1994 at the request of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has violated the ceasefire regime since then, initiating skirmishes on the contact line. On April 1 it waged the largest by-scale ceasefire violation, attacking not only military but also civilian positions of Nagorno Karabakh.
