Sao Paolo Armenians to contribute to Franco da Rocha – Stepanakert cooperation

YEREVAN, MARCH 29, ARMENPRESS. Armenians of the Brazilian State of Sao Paulo will make efforts to contribute to the cooperation between sister cities Franco da Rocha and Stepanakert. This was stated in an interview with "Armenpress" by the founder of the Armenian Chamber of Commerce of Brazil and "Armenian Youth Fedayi Professional Football Club" Sargis Karamekian.

"As you know, on February 3, 2016 the Franco da Rocha city council unanimously adopted a resolution declaring Stepanakert and Franco da Rocha as sister cities, in order to establish friendly relations between the two cities. Our organization, the “Armenian Youth Fedayi Professional Football Club” and Samvel Gabrielyan from Artsakh greatly impacted this decision. We will implement various projects to actively cooperate with Artsakh. The cooperation can be in different spheres, such as tourism, trade, culture, or sports ", said Sargis Karamekian.

The draft decision was presented to member of the City Council of Franco Da Rocha Antonio Lopes da Silva, and approved by Mayor Francisco Daniel Selegim de Morais. Recently the gratitude letter of the Mayor of Stepanakert Suren Grigoryan was handed over to Antonio Lopes da Silva.

According to Sargis Karamekian, Brazil has a huge market and there are opportunities for Artsakh to present its products. In this direction works will be carried out by the Armenian Chamber of Commerce of Brazil.

Brazil has a population of 200 million, of which about 50 million are living in Sao Paulo. Franco da Rocha has a population of 150 thousand. "In other words, the market is huge. We are thinking of making Armenian dishes and sweet more recognizable here, especially as the number of fans of Armenian cuisine is increasing. Brazilians love delicious meals, thus we will use this opportunity to present the Armenian cuisine to a wide range of the society, "Sargis Karamekian said. According to him, it is necessary to carry out cultural activities in Franco da Rocha in collaboration with Stepanakert and make each other’s culture and traditions more recognizable.

According to the latest data, 50 thousand Armenians live in Sao Paulo. For 31 years the "Armenian Youth Fedayi Professional Football Club" is active, and according to Sargis Karamekian , it is a professional football club.

The Armenian community also has an Armenian radio show, called "Eternal Armenia." It is already 10 years old. "The program is first and foremost a good opportunity of passing the Armenian language to the Armenian community. Besides, news related to Armenia and Artsakh is presented on the air. It serves entirely to the Armenian community of Brazil, "Sargis Karamekian said.

Sargis Karamekian also mentioned that there is an Armenian school in Sao Paolo. He also stressed the importance of language preservation among the Armenian community.
