Expert in Georgian studies predicts increase of Armenia's role in the normalization of Georgian-
Russian relations

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, ARMENPRESS. We have the opportunity to talk about a higher level of Armenian-Georgian relations over the last few years. This is due to the fact that the current Georgian authorities are ready to deepen relations with Armenia, expert in Georgian studies Alik Eroyants mentioned during the interview in “Armenpress” media hall. “Recent regional developments open new opportunities both for Armenia and Georgia. In particular, it refers to the cancellation of sanctions against Iran, as well as the improvement of Russian-Georgian relations. In particular, we can also see Armenia's role in the normalization of Russian-Georgian relations. Hence, Armenian factor will increase further. It is possible as Armenia is a reliable partner both for Russia and Georgia,” Alik Eroyants said emphasizing that the regional developments suggest Armenia and Georgia can begin to interact with the new format and new directions.

According to Alik Eroyants, pro-Armenian approaches are noticeable in the steps of Georgian current authorities. As we know, Turkish-Azerbaijani factor was strengthened over the past decade but the Armenian factor was pushed back. “Saakashvili led pro-Turkish and pro-Azerbaijani policy. An obvious anti-Armenianism existed and it seemed to spread over the Georgian society. Currently, there is a change in the situation. In the case of the weakening of Turkish-Azerbaijani factor the increase of the Armenian factor is possible,” expert in Georgian studies added.

He noticed that the West is also interested in normalization of Russian-Georgian relations.
