Armenia to continue supporting peace process in Afghanistan

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian attended and gave a speech at the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the states engaged in "Decisive Support" mission for ensuring security in Afghanistan. The meeting was held in NATO Headquarters in Brussels on December 1. As “Armenpress” was informed from the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of MFA Armenia, foreign ministers of nearly 40 NATO and "Decisive Support" participant states participated in the meeting held to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and the future steps of the international society.

In his speech Edward Nalbandian reconfirmed Armenia’s commitment to continue supporting the international efforts for peace and establishment of national solidarity in Afghanistan.

“After early one year since the launch of "Decisive Support" mission the situation continues to remain fragile, the challenges still exist, and the gap of capabilities must be filled.  The People of Afghanistan continues to feel the need of our support.”, Minister Nalbandian said in his speech.

Minister Nalbandian also talked about international security threats and mentioned that the security of one country is connected with the security of others. According to him, this is the reason why Armenia started to participate in peace-keeping mission more than a decade ago despite the tension on our own borders.

Edward Nalbandian said that Armenia will continue the implementation of its international commitments in 2016 and hoped that sooner or later the international society will succeed in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.
