One arrested member of armed gang goes on hunger strike

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. Observer’s group of the Police met at the Detention Facility on Nov. 27, 18 people arrested in connection with the incident of street 9, Nork Marash on November 25. “Armenpress” reports that the statement spread by the press service of the Observers’ group says:

We inform that none of the 18 detainees has any complaints neither in connection with the Detention Facilities nor the policemen working there. All of them said that they had been provided with food and lawyers.  ”

The Observer group informed the detainees about the rights they were not aware of.

One of the arrested persons; G.J. informed that he will not take food as he is going on a hunger strike.  The Observer group found out that G.J. did not submit any application or claim on starting a hunger strike. The Observer group explained G.J that he should present an application to the Administration of the Detention Facility regarding the hunger strike. The Observers’ group also tried to find out the reason for the hunger strike and G.J said he would present the reasons later, before submitting the application.

The Observers’ group will keep the arrested persons in the center of attention during their stay at the Detention Facility trying to present new information.

According to the data of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, Artur Vardanyan born in 1981, residing in Spain since 1997 arrived in Armenia in 2015, formed and headed a criminal group during 2015 with the intention of organizing a number of grave crimes in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. He recruited mainly unemployed 19 citizens of Armenia, 5 of them residents of Yerevan, 7 – of Shirak region, 3 – of Armavir region, 2 – of Lori region, 1 – of Kotayk region, 1 – of Gegharkunik region, 1 – of Syunik region, including 4 women and 3 participants of Artsakh liberation war. All 19 members of the gang have been arrested.

On November 25, different rifles, pistols, grenade launchers, grenades, explosive materials and equipment, cartridges, bullets etc. were discovered in the rented house in Nork district of Yerevan. Artur Vardanyan and 9 members of the criminal group were discovered in the house during the searches. The criminals have been arrested.
