YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. "Real World, Real People" non-governmental organization jointly with the National Centre for AIDS Prevention (NCAP) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia has been organizing free projects of AIDS Prevention and medical examinations for already 3 years. “Armenpress” reports that Co-chairmen of "Real World, Real People" NGO Sam Tadevosyan said the aforementioned.

Prevention projects are called Euroweeks. This year the latter will be held on November 24-28 in Northern Avenue. Passers-by come up, receive free medical examination, the specialists provide them with pre-testing consultations, they get their blood tested, and the result is ready in 10 minutes,” Tadevosyan said.

He also emphasized that people have become more active in undergoing AIDS tests as compared to the previous years and that progress is registered each year. The number of visits has surpassed 300 within 3 years, the average age of the persons tested ranges from 20 to 35.

He added that HIV/AIDS is mainly acquired from Russia and Ukraine, through migration. Sam Tadevosyan noted that the society’s attitude and ideas about AIDS positive people have changed but there is still the stereotype that this is a disease of prostitutes and drug addicts but no one is insured against AIDS and one must not be judged by the disease.

According to the statistics of the National Centre for AIDS Prevention (NCAP) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, the cases of HIV have started in Armenia since 1998. 2194 cases of HIV among Armenia citizens registered in Armenia from 1998 till October 31 of 2015. 334 of 2194 HIV cases were registered in 2014 which exceeds the number of cases of all the preceding years.
