Juvenile delinquency decreases in Armenia

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. There has been sharp decrease in juvenile delinquency in Armenia not only in comparison with 2014, but also the previous several years.

Head of the 3rd Department of the General Department of Criminal Intelligence of the Republic of Armenia Police, Police Colonel Nelli Duryan told “Armenpress” that though the data of the overall year will be presented later, the study of the committed crimes shows that Armenian children and teenagers are less inclined to delinquency.

“The programs, measures that we implement have become more effective. We have superintendents in high schools that prevent interpersonal conflicts that can later turn into fight, beating, inflicting of bodily injuries. We also carry out active works with all the social and international structures operating in the sector,” Duryan said.

“There is child trafficking we are greatly concerned about. Of course, the number of such cases is not very big, but it is still disturbing and we take serious actions to prevent it,” Nelli Duryan informed.

In regards to child prostitution, she said, there are some rare cases.

“There are not serious concerns in that respect, as there have been rare cases,” Police Colonel Nelli Duryan said, adding that the Police is very serious about the issue and performs explanatory, psychological activities with teenagers trying to get them back on the track.
