Advantages and shortcomings of draft law on museums and museum fund

Advantages and shortcomings of draft law on museums and museum fund

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS. There are 123 museums in Yerevan, but until now a legislative document on museums and museum fund is absent. About one month ago chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Davtyan, with Deputy Culture Minister Arev Samuelian, introduced the revised version of the draft law on “Museums and Armenian museum fund”.

Different museum managers have various expectations on draft law defining the standing museums’ work in the Republic of Armenia, which is considered an open-air museum.

Deputy Director at ''Erebuni'' Museum Araksi Meshinyan is well acquainted with the mentioned draft law on  “Museums and Armenian museum fund” and considers that it should be renamed into the law on “Armenian museums and museums fund”, as in the initial variant it creates an impression that museums and museum funds are separate from each other.

Shirak museum director Hamazasp Khachatryan is glad that in the near future a law, defining museums’ work, will be accepted.
