YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. Stepanakert airport can receive Il-76 cargo aircraft, Airbus-320 and 321, Boeing 337 and SuperJet passenger planes. Currently, the airport runway is 2270 meters, and the width is 45 meters against 37 meters in the past.  Former head of the NKR Civil Aviation Department Dmitry Atbashyan announced about this.  He clarified that during the Soviet times the airport operated with a daily service of 8-10 flights and 20-25 flights during the war.

Referring to the reconstruction works of the airport, Atbashyan mentioned that prior to the reconstruction the Russian “Airproject” company had concluded that the Stepanakert airport cannot serve flights via navigation devices, but the devices were installed during the reconstruction works which can regulate flights in bad weather conditions and at nights. Atbashyan stated that the navigation systems of Armenia and NKR are unified which means that regulator of Yerevan flights can also regulate flights in NKR.

Stepanakert airport has an opportunity to receive all planes that the Russian Aerospace Forces use in Syria within the framework of anti-terrorist operations. Answering to the question of “Armenpress”, Atbashyan clarified that the location of the airport is convenient for that propose.

Atbashyan refused to answer political questions referring to providing Stepanakert airport for Russian anti-terrorist operations.

In a press-conference held in Moscow on November 12, NKR President Bako Sahakyan had announced that the Stepanakert airport can be used by Russian Aerospace Forces.
