86 killed in Ankara train station blasts

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 10, ARMENPRESS. Twin explosions targeted a peace rally in Turkey’s capital Ankara on Saturday, leaving at least 86 dead and 186 injured. “Armenpress” reports citing “Anadolu” news agency that Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu revealed the updated casualty figures at a news conference at the prime minister’s office in Ankara hours after the attack.

“At the scene, 62 people were killed and 24 succumbed to death in hospital,” he said. “Twenty-four people were severely injured.”

Of the 186 injured, Muezzinoglu said 28 were in intensive care units and 18 were currently undergoing surgery.

The number of dead makes the attack the deadliest in recent Turkish history. The blast area was quickly closed as police began their investigation. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned Saturday’s deadly bomb attack on a peace rally in Ankara as “hateful”.

In a statement following the attack in which at least 30 people were killed and 126 wounded in twin explosions outside Ankara’s main train station, he said: “I fiercely condemn the hateful attack against our unity and solidarity and our country's peace.”
