Harlem Désir emphasizes importance of Madrid Principles in Karabakh conflict settlement

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 9, ARMENPRESS. Armenia will continue directing its efforts together with the Minsk Co-chairs to exceptionally peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.  

Republic of Armenia Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian noted the aforementioned during the briefing with France’s Secretary of State for European Affairs Harlem Désir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

“We took the opportunity to have a meeting and discuss the privileged relations between the two countries, agenda issues. We spoke about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict during the meeting. I introduced the situation that Azerbaijan had created recently on its border with Armenia and Karabakh contact line connected with ceasefire regime violation and the provocations on the part of Azerbaijan due to which the situation has escalated, ” “Armenpress” reports, Nalbandian said.

Harlem Désir emphasized that France was ready to make all the necessary efforts in the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. According to Secretary of State for European Affairs, France, which co-chairs the OSCE Minsk Group with Russia and USA, endeavors to contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

“It’s necessary to find a solution which will comply with the Madrid Principles about which an announcement was made during the meeting of Armenia and Azerbaijan presidents last year in Paris. France for its part is ready to make all the necessary efforts to reach the peaceful settlement of the conflict through negotiations,” Désir stated, adding that it was important to consider the interests of the civil population as well as preserve stability.
