Harlem Désir: Humanity did not learn lessons from Armenian Genocide

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 9, ARMENPRESS. Harlem Désir, France’s Secretary of State for European Affairs confesses that his soul was shattered after he visited the Armenian Genocide memorial complex at Tsitsernakaberd and familiarized himself with the exhibits of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.

In reply to “Armenpress” question, Désir emphasizes that he could not leave Armenia without visiting Tsitsernakaberd Memorial, especially because it is the centennial of the Armenian Genocide this year and the President of his country François Hollande honoured the memory of the victims there.

“Humanity did not learn lessons from the Armenian Genocide, and today we have what we have. For this reason it is very important to keep the memories alive which has universal resonance and meaning. The struggle for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide must continue in all the countries, including Turkey.  Turkey must face its memories, the same way Germany did. It’s very important for the reconciliation and this is the essence of France’s message. To the extent possible we raise the issue of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in all countries,” Harlem Désir concluded.
