YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Armenia is going to enhance the volume of gas imported from Iran Islamic Republic, while increasing electricity exports to Iran. As “Armenpress” reports, citing Iranian Media, Armenian energy and natural resources minister Yervand Zakaryan made an agreement with Iran's Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zanganeh durng the meeting in Tehran.

Iranian Minister mentioned that the format of the Armenian-Iranian cooperation will remain the same, adding that the details of the deal will be discussed in the future. Tehran and Yerevan signed an official agreement for the export of Iran's gas to Armenia in 2004. Head of National Iranian Gas Exports Company Ali-Reza Kameli informed in the interview with Shana agency that Iran can export 2.3bn cubic meters of gas to Armenia annually. “Since necessary infrastructure is lacking in Armenia, the country is currently unable to take full advantage of the capacity of the pipeline,” said Kameli.

The Iranian official stated that Armenia is currently planning to build a new 400-kilovolt power transmission line in addition to a combined-cycle power plant and has asked Iran to supply the natural gas that it needs to get the plant going.
