The Financial Times: Erdoğan tightens leash on Turkish media

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan tightens leash on the mass media on the eve of the November 1 elections. “Armenpress” reports that the British The Financial Times magazine informs about this, emphasizing that the independent press in Turkey is in terrible shape.

The magazine reminds that the American Freedom House International human rights organization has been outcrying about Turkish media being not free since 2013. The magazine also added that over 300 journalist remained unemployed after the 2011 demonstration in Istanbul’s Gezi Park.

According to the periodical, after the June 7 parliamentary elections in Turkey the OSCE announced that Erdoğan violated the law and the election does not correspond to European standards. “The June 7 elections were more similar to a referendum aimed to establish Presidential system in Turkey”, wrote the magazine.
