Deputy Yerevan Police Chief assesses activities of demonstrators on Baghramyan Avenue as illegal

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Yerevan Police Chief Valery Osipyan commented on the attempts of the members of “No robbery” initiative to block the avenue and the measures taken by the Police in an interview with journalists on September 1. “We were explaining that it is forbidden to violate an order for a long time. We said that we welcome their struggle, but they should act within the law. All their activities were outlawed but the Police acted within the law”, “Armenpress” reports, Osipyan emphasized.

He added that the citizens were arrested for throwing stones at the Police and for their attempt to block the street. Deputy Yerevan Police Chief mentioned that the demonstrators want to instigate clashes with the Police.

The Police arrested three people on Baghramnyan Avenue for violating public order. The member of “No robbery” initiative Maksim Hakobyan is among the arrested.

The Police arrested them at the moment when they were again trying to block the street. The Police continue to manage the situation on Baghramyan Avenue. The demonstrators gathered on Baghramyan Avenue gave the Police half an hour to set free the arrested; otherwise, they threaten to block the street.
