Turkish Minister becomes target for mass media for his stance over Armenian Genocide

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The newly appointed Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Ali Haydar Konca became the target of Turkish nationalist mass media for publicly expressing his stance over the Armenian Genocide.  Ali Haydar Konca is a representative of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) which has 80 seats in the parliament.

“Armenpress” reports that a number of mass media linked with nationalist circles of Turkey have condemned Konca for accusing them in the massacres of Armenians during the Ottoman Empire.

According to “Agos”, the Turkish Minister for EU Affairs representing People’s Democratic Party presented as follows, “It is obvious that massacre was conducted. It is accepted by everyone. In fact, no one denies. The main problem is how it is described. We will discuss this issue within our party and will clarify our unified position”.

The Turkish pro-governmental newspaper Sabah wrote that the Turkish minister “overstepped the limits” in response to reporters’ question about the Armenian Genocide,

There are already calls in Turkey demanding to dismiss the two Kurdish ministers included in the interim government for their announcements recognizing the Armenian Genocide and the sovereignty and rights of Kurds in Turkey.

Co-chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Selahattin Demirtaş, had issued a statement during the pre-electoral campaign that in case of being elected a President he will recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The Armenian Genocide has officially been recognized by 24 states and several prominent international organizations.
