YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia participated in the discussions of the draft Constitution, presented suggestions all of which were accepted.  “Armenpress” reports that Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan informed the journalists that security and protection issues are guaranteed by the new draft Constitution.

“We have always participated in the discussions, introduced our suggestions, all our suggestions were accepted and security and protection are guaranteed by the new Constitution.”, he said adding that he had no objection referring the duties of the state’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief in war and peace conditions.

In reply to the question whether he sees himself as a Defense Minister in the future, Seyran Ohanyan answered:

“I carry out my duties when I am appointed to a certain position. I, as a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, will carry out the duty to my homeland no matter where I am.”

According to the draft of Constitutional Reforms, it is established in the chapters referring to the “Armed Forces” and “Martial Law” that in war time the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is the prime minister and in peace time - the defense minister.
