MP and political expert have opposing opinions about draft Constitution

MP and political expert have opposing opinions about draft Constitution

YEREVAN, AUGUST 24, ARMENPRESS. The draft Constitution is a project of fundamental changes which includes a change in the model. The viewpoint belongs to Armenian MP from the Republican Party of Armenia Karine Achemyan. MP Achemyan is confident that the new version of the main document of the country will bring structural changes and changes in the form of government.

“The political field can recover due to these changes.”, claims Achemyan.

Head of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs Styopa Safaryan does not share former colleague’s opinion. Despite the fact that the political expert has never been positive about the semi-presidential system of government, he does not favor the new draft Constitution as many problems remain unanswered.

“The current Constitution implies a number of problems. For instance the Judicial branch is dependent on the Executive branch and the President of the Republic and the new draft Constitution does not solve this problem.” Armenpress reports, Styopa Safaryan stated, adding that the institution that he represents will make suggestions to the professional committee and have discussions on Constitutional reforms.
