PM of Armenia urges business sector to participate in fight against corruption

YEREVAN, JULY 28, ARMENPRESS. PM Hovik Abrahamyan attributes great importance to the active cooperation with the business sector in the fight against corruption. According to the PM, this cooperation is currently overlooked. Armenpress reports that the Prime Minister noted the abovementioned in the session of government formed Anti-Corruption Council.

The PM said:

“During the session we talked about the negative impact of corruption on various spheres of state and social activities. The negative impact of corruption on the development of economy and realization of economic investments was noted to be immense. I attribute great importance to the active cooperation with the business sector in the fight against corruption which seemingly has been overlooked. I’d like the business sector to participate in this process. The latter provide our budget income from which we are able to give pensions, allowances, salaries and to equip our army.”

Abrahamyan assigned the Republic of Armenia Government Staff to hold meetings with representatives of business sector to give them a possibility of voicing corruption issues, presenting their approaches, and the Government will try to reach effective solutions as a result of Government discussions.

The members of the Council are the Minister Chief of Staff Davit Harutyunyan, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Armenia Gagik Khachatryan, the Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia Suren Krmoyan and the President of the Public Council of Armenia Vazgen Manukyan, representatives of different NGOs and organizations.

The Council confirmed the new anti-corruption strategy which will be included in the forthcoming session of the Government to be confirmed by it. The new strategy was introduced by the Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia - Arsen Mkrtchyan.
