YEREVAN, JULY 27, ARMENPRESS. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan visited the Darial (Kazbek) checkpoint between Georgia and Russia together with the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in the framework of his working visit to Georgia on July 27.  As “Armenpress” was informed from the Information and Public Relations Department of the Staff of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the heads of the Governments of the both countries got acquainted to the works of the checkpoint and talked to the workers. PM Hovik Abrahamyan was particularly interested in the problems the Armenian cars encounter with while travelling from Armenia to Russia and how much time it takes to check the documents and pass the relevant procedures. PM Abrahamyan also talked to the citizens of Armenia travelling to Russia via the checkpoint.

After the tour the Prime Ministers summed the results of the visit. According to the agreement reached between the PMs, the operation of the Darial checkpoint between Georgia and Russia will be extended by another 3.5 hours, making overall 6.5 hours for the last month, and according to the new agreement it will operate from 5:30 am to 12 pm. The working schedule of the checkpoint had been extended by 3 hours nearly a month ago as a result of the discussion between the two PMs.

The sides discussed a number of issues connected with minimizing traffic jams of Armenian trucks at the Georgian checkpoint, as well as easing the procedure of exportation from Armenia via the Georgian checkpoint. The sides also referred to the issues of the construction of the bridge “Friendship” on the Armenian-Georgian border. The sides agreed to start the construction in a short time.

The delegation headed by the Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan returned to Armenia on July 27.
