"Socialist International" Association to discuss recognition of Armenian Genocide

NEW YORK, JULY 8, ARMENPRESS. The international association of social-democratic parties “Socialist International” (SI) is going to discuss the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the framework of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As reports “Armenpress”, citing “Asbarez” periodic, the decision was made by the Council of “Socialist International” during the meeting held in the New York office of the UN on July 8.

The SI General Secretary Luis Ayala informed the Council that during the last two days the leadership of SI has consulted with the Armenian member (Armenian Revolutionary Federation) and Turkish member (Republican People’s Party) of the Association to come to an agreement over the agenda set during the Geneva meeting. The agenda is the following, “The position of the Socialist International over the issue of the Armenian Genocide viewing its recognition by a number of national parliaments and supra-national organizations”.

As informs Ayala, the Association has succeeded to come to an agreement over the issue.

“Socialist International” wishes to organize hearings or round table discussions with the participation of the ARF and the RPP on the following topic, “Will the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey give a real opportunity for Armenian - Turkish reconciliation?”
