Stoltenberg excludes intervention of Russia in issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO

YEREVAN, JULY 7, ARMENPRESS. NATO will consider the application for membership of Ukraine regardless of the position of any other countries. As Armenpress reports, this was stated in interview to the Ukrainian edition of "UKRINFORM" by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

"This applies to Ukraine itself — to apply or not... If Ukraine decides to apply for membership in NATO in the future, this application will be evaluated similarly to that of the application of other countries that want to join NATO," Stoltenberg said.

The NATO Secretary General noted that the issue of membership may not interfere with anybody other than the applicant and other countries of the Alliance. "This only applies to Ukraine and the 28 NATO countries... It is a fundamental principle that every nation has its own right to choose their path, including issues of security," he said.

In addition, Stoltenberg once again accused Russia of supplying weapons to the militias in the Donbass. According to him, in recent months, Moscow gave the armed forces of the breakaway republics "more than a thousand pieces of heavy equipment." This information, according to the NATO Secretary General, confirmed the exploration of the member countries of the Alliance, as well as the media.
