Armenian parliamentary speaker views victories in May as powerful response to the
perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide

YEREVAN, 28 MAY, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Galust Sahakyan has sent an address on the occasion of Republic Day. As the Department of Information and Public Relations of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, the address of the Speaker of the National Assembly reads as follows:

“Dear compatriots, I congratulate you on Republic Day.

Just a couple of years after the Armenian Genocide, the victories in Sardarapat, Bash-Aparan and Gharakilisa were the first powerful responses to the crime of genocide and its perpetrators, and the establishment of the independent state was evidence of the fact that even after the most tragic blow, the spirit and viability of our nation not only exists, but is also increasing.

In the year marking the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the victories of the 28th of May 1918 are becoming more symbolic, and the result of those victories is the declaration of the First Republic of Armenia. We won in Sardarapat in the early 20th century with power and dignity. We won again through efforts and with dedication in the Artsakh liberation struggle in the late 20th century.

Generations having scored and aspirin for victories live as a nation that keeps the memory of victories alive and as a nation that has scored victories with a vision for the future.

Once again, I congratulate us all on Republic Day and wish all of us peace, welfare, optimism and more victories.”
