Mkhitaryan took 64 per cent of the weekly poll, beating FC Bayern München’s Bastian Schweinsteiger into second place (23 per cent). The midfield general, making his 500th competitive appearance for the club, netted his fifth goal of the season and completed 85.3 per cent of his attempted passes on a day which also saw the 24-time Bundesliga champions presented with the famous Meisterschale.

There were celebrations of a different kind at the Benteler Arena, meanwhile, after VfB Stuttgart striker Daniel Ginczek stuck away the match-winning goal that secured the Swabians’ place in the Bundesliga and sent hosts SC Paderborn 07 back down to the second tier.
